How CD4 T cells orchestrate immunity — and what happens when they don't.

The Weaver Lab studies the development and function of CD4 T cells: how they direct adaptive immunity in host defense, and how they become dysregulated in immune-mediated disease of the intestine and in colorectal cancer.

What we work on

Research at a glance

01

Th17 biology

Our lab helped define the Th17 lineage. We continue to map how these cells develop, how they defend mucosal barriers, and how they drive inflammation when control is lost.

02

Mucosal & intestinal immunity

We study how CD4 T cells — effector and regulatory — keep the intestine in balance, and how nuclear receptors and the microbiota tune that balance.

03

Disease & dysregulation

From inflammatory bowel disease to colorectal cancer and late-onset neonatal sepsis, we ask how T-cell programs go wrong and how they might be redirected.
