§ Part vii
A note to prospective contributors
Dear colleague,
We are glad you are reading this. The laboratory takes on curious, rigorous people at every stage — postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduates, and staff — and the only quality we have found to be indispensable is a willingness to keep asking a question after the first satisfying answer arrives.
The work is mouse immunology done carefully: reporter and fate-mapping models, single-cell measurement, infection and colitis in vivo, and a good deal of time spent deciding what a result actually shows. It suits people who like their questions mechanistic and their controls thorough, and who are content to spend a year on a problem that will be described in one figure.
If that sounds like the right way to spend some years, write. Tell us what you have worked on and what you would like to understand next — a paragraph of your own thinking is worth more to us than a list of techniques.
With regards,
Casey T. Weaver
For the laboratoryOpenings
- Postdoctoral fellows
- Candidates holding a PhD and/or MD with a background in immunology, molecular biology, or a related field are invited to enquire. Send a CV and a brief statement of research interests.
- Graduate students
- Prospective doctoral students apply through UAB's Graduate Biomedical Sciences programme and are welcome to rotate in the laboratory.
- Undergraduates
- UAB undergraduates interested in hands-on immunology research may write about availability; positions depend on the projects underway.
- Technicians & staff
- Staff positions, when open, are posted through UAB Careers. Enquiries are welcome at any time.
